News Release: COVID-19 School Notification - January 22, 2021

graphic that says "covid-19 school notification"

An individual at Dave McNeilly School has been identified as positive for COVID-19.

Since becoming aware of this member of our school community being diagnosed, out of an abundance of caution, the following steps have been taken:

-Students and staff in close contact have been notified.
-Parents have been contacted to pick up children and remain in isolation
-AHS has been contacted to notify of these positive results
-Communication has been sent to all close contacts.

The last possible date of close contact was January 20, 2021. As FMPSD has a strict practice in place allowing no access to school facilities over the weekend we are confident that with evening clearing and sanitation practices and the weekend to leave the building 'rest' that our facilities remain safe for student and staff attendance.

FMPSD will await further direction from AHS regarding the length of time that students and staff must remain in isolation.

Student and staff health and safety is our priority. We will continue to work diligently with Alberta Health Services.

Thank you for your continued understanding as we navigate this fluid situation.

Division Notice

ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
